ALLIES IN A COMMON BATTLE-RACISM AND THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB

ALLIES IN A COMMON BATTLE, RACISM, AND
THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB
GARY NORRIS GRAY-BASN STAFF REPORTER
OAKLAND, CA- With the recent political, racial, and social events happening across the United States, Americans are asking what country do we live in? Are we in the 1960’s?
This is a battle for people of color. This is a battle for RESPECT; This is a battle for the right to the pursuit of happiness. This is a battle to be HUMAN. It has not been going well since President Barack Hussein Obama II stepped into the White House in 2008. The election of our 44th President opened the doors for racism to stream across our land. Americans were allowed to speak their minds when it came to race and they have done so.
Native American activist Amanda Blackhorse, a plaintiff in the litigation against the Washington Football Club’s “Redskin” mascot, makes a powerful argument about why the mascot litigation is important given all the other problems facing Native Americans. Writing for Indian Country Today Media Network, Ms. Blackhorse stated that the overarching battle is against dehumanization.
Ms. Blackhorse is from the Navajo Nation in Arizona has been waging this legal battle against the Washington Football Club and The National Football League four over eight years, she states that:-
If we are not respected as human beings how can we be respected when dealing with politics and/or economics? It makes it harder to be seen as leaders, advocates, and people who want real change to happen in our communities if you are seen as just a person who dances at pow wows and viewed as a mere relic of old cowboy and Indian movies. Of course this is not the case in every situation when dealing with non-Natives and government, but it seems to be a common misconception of Native people, which transcends into politics and government

If you listen to the Gray Leopard Cove on Saturday afternoons on Blog Talk Radio it has been repeated many times that the United States of America will have to come to grips with race with a national conference on race with minorities leading the form while President Obama is at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
Indiana’s Governor Mike Pence is not helping passing the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act which targets gay and lesbian residents of the state of Indiana. The Governor stated that this bill grants religious freedom and is not a discrimination bill, but just ask the (LBGT) Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender, community. This opens the door for any business in their state to refuse service just because they think that you could be a member of the GLBT community.
The University of Oklahoma Sigma Alpha Epsilon-fraternity Kappa Chapter outing.(pun intended) SAE Members sung racist epithets on a bus traveling to their yearly Founders Day gathering. These young men created images of Black people hanging from trees in these songs. Racism is alive and well in the United States.
The mounting number of deaths of African American males by police officers in the states of Ohio, California, Missouri, Florida, and New York, ALLEGEDLY. Black men are losing their lives on the platform of the Fruitvale (BART) Bay Area Rapid Transit Station, on the playgrounds of Cleveland and on the streets of Ferguson, Missouri and Miami, Florida.
The Washington Football Club and it’s owner continue the defiance to change the name, REDSKIN, a name that has been defined in the dictionary as derogatory and offensive. Racism extends towards our Native American brothers and sisters, reducing them to a mascot or logo.
Last the immigration fight by the legislators in Washington, D.C. against Latino-Hispanic Americans that want to stay in the Land of Liberty. You can clean our house, care for our children, fix our automobiles, and farm our lands but…..
Our Native American Brothers and Sisters are fighting the same battles. Native American as Ms. Amanda Blackhorse makes it very clear in her recent article “THIS IS WHAT DEHUMANIZATION LOOKS LIKE” with her 18 points.
1. The land grabbing of indigenous lands
2. The raping, violence, and hatred directed at indigenous women and children
3. The poisoning of our water
4. The desecration of our ancestor’s bones and graves
5. Each “redskin” (hair, scalp, nose, ears, genitals, and skin) taken off of an indigenous person
6. Each child taken from the arms of their parents and grandparents for the sake of “killing the Indian and saving the man”
7. Each treaty that was not honored
8. Every acre of land stolen from indigenous people
9. Every law passed since the Doctrine of Discovery for the sake of Manifest Destiny
10. Every religion stuffed down the throats of indigenous men and women for the sake of colonization
11. Each small pox blanket
12. Every head of hair chopped off in boarding schools and residential schools
13. The forced mining, fracking and desecration of indigenous lands yesterday and today
14. The sterilization of Indigenous women by Indian Health Service
15. Each tribe which no longer exists due to the attempted extermination of Indigenous people
16. Each tribal person who was exiled and relocated to urban communities
17. Each person who has been subjected to alcoholism in the name of poor business or poor treaty deals
18. Each Native person who has been experimented on and exploited for their blood, bodies, and DNA
Take a close look at each point these are some of the same issues that African Americans and The Gay community are struggling with everyday.
Also add the lack of concern by the American public when it comes to the issues of missing young African, Asian, and Native American women.
Ms. Blackhorse has been cited and criticized by others because she is messing with their beautiful 1950’s America image. She is forcing Americans to re-think racial and social issues.
Quite often when speaking out and educating others about the mascot issue, the same question is asked, “Why are you people worried about mascots? Don’t you have bigger issues to worry about on the reservations
This is the same political and social tactic America takes with crime in the United States. BLACK ON BLACK CRIME which is an oxymoron. Question, Do you ever hear the news media state WHITE ON WHITE CRIME, NO, but as First Officer of the Starship Enterprise Mr. Spock states; “That would be logical” Why? Because there are more white residents in the United States then Black. So logically there would be more white on white events then Black but don’t tell the American public that because it ruins a good story. A story that continues to dehumanizes African Americans the same treatment as Native America/First Nation.
Ms. Blackhorse makes it clear again that we are in this fight together.
Oh yes, the bigger issues question. What most people seem to be referring to are the many issues which plague Native American communities. Societal problems such as violence against women, suicide, alcoholism, high unemployment rates on reservations, poverty, etc. Many of these issues have been highlighted throughout the history of Native American people, through various studies, articles, documentaries, movies, so on and so on.
The same issues are African American. Example many do not know that the Lone Ranger-Bess Reeves a 1900 Oklahoma lawman was an African American and yes his partner was a Native America-Tonto a Potawatomi Indian, there was a Black American President before Mr. Obama.
Many African Americans believe that Senator John Hanson of Maryland was the first Black President of the United States. Henson was also the First President of the Continental Congress. It is still unclear.
These are positive role models but American History writers will not print these stories because this country continues psychologically warfare on minorities.
Demonizing Black males and dehumanizing Native Americans have been consistent the past ten years. Police officer Darren Wilson called Michael Brown a monster, a demon, which needed to be put down. Eric Gardner was called an elephant making the victim an animal. Five officers dragged him to the ground in the process of choking him to death. The military brainwashes its troops to make the enemy an animal so it will be easier to kill without conscience. This is happening all over the United States when it relates to minority citizens.
That is why it is so easy to have Native American names for its sports teams. Question what other minority has a professional team named after them? Answer, The Santa Barbara Gauchos, The San Diego State Aztecs, The University of Pennsylvania Quakers, The Idaho Vandals, The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, The Syracuse Orangemen, The New York Cubans, and The New York Black Yankees, are a few names.
In 1968 there were over 5, 000 schools that used Native American names. In 2015 The United States cut that number to 350. The tide is slowly turning but not fast enough for some minority Americans.
The Washington Football Club and owner Dan Snyder could be a beacon of light and vision in solving a small part of a disparaging and degrading sports image. Changing the name would send a message to Americans that it is time to move forward.
Again Ms. Blackhorse makes it clear:-
And allow me to drive home this point: using the ‘bigger issues’ excuse is just that, an excuse. It is an excuse that is counter-productive and does nothing to solve the greater problem of the oppression of Native people and racism directed at Native people. It’s an excuse to be apathetic and to deny a problem really exists. If you are not engaged in addressing those bigger issues you should not be using the bigger issues excuse. If you happen to be working on those bigger issues and still do not agree then let’s agree to disagree, and also understand that just because this isn’t your struggle, it doesn’t mean it isn’t a struggle for your fellow Native people.
African Americans hear the consistent beat that Black people are too sexual, criminals, not intelligent, lazy, athletic, dance like animals, and are loud. NOT HUMAN!!!!
When America colonized the Hawaiian Islands the residents were informed they could no longer perform their cultural dances or speak their native language. The woman had to wear tops to cover their breast. The Hawaiians had to conform to the Western Cultural morals.
African Americans are the second group in the United States that were strip of their land. But Blacks suffered more the lost of their culture, food, religion, and language. This country continues to do likewise with Native Americans. It is not working, Native Americans/First Nation are fighting back with tenacity and pride.
THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER and THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB will change it’s name. It is now just a matter of time.
The Gray Leopard Cove Salute, Amanda Blackhorse and the Native American political activist movement.

ROGER GOODELL IS THE NEW UNCLE BUD-PART IV-CONCLUSION

Roger Goodell Is The New Uncle Bud (Selig)
PART IV-Conclusion
Gary Norris Gray- BASN Staff Reporter
The Sheriff Roger Goodell rode into town on his big black stallion, waving his powerful sword carrying the red, white, and blue National Football League shield. IT IS NOT WORKING!!!!
Hope you remember the old spaghetti (Italian) western movies of the late 1970’s with Clint Eastwood. “THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY”. The following articles will proceed in reverse THE UGLY, THE BAD, and last THE GOOD.
Mr. Roger Goodell may have taken classes from the former Commissioner of Baseball, Bud Selig, doing as little as possible to placate the owners. Many have questioned the commissioner’s decisions the past nine years and the League might have to pay for those administrative decisions.
REALIGNMENT
Commissioner Goodell might want to change the face of the National Football League. Realignment has not been done since 2002. Teams are currently in divisions that are geographical incorrect. The NFL state that they want to cut down on travel, gas, and time. The West coastal teams are at a disadvantage.
Last year the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers were the most traveled teams. Conversations continue to return the Seahawks to the American Football Conference WEST. This will be the third time that Seattle moves to another conference.
First, The realignment of the six current divisions by putting teams the current teams in their proper geographical regions, which could transform each division competitively. The New England Patriots have won the AFC EAST Division 12 of 14 years. WHY? Because no team in that division can challenge the red, white and blue Pats. The infusion of the Baltimore Ravens into the AFC East Division would create that competition.
The League should explain why the Indianapolis Colts are in the AFC SOUTH Division. The Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titians are current members. The Colts are nowhere near their competitors. While the Miami Dolphins are in the AFC East Division with the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots almost one thousand miles away.
Next question, why are the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC NORTH Division with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, and Cleveland Browns? These teams are a train ride away from each other. The Ravens are the odd man out.
Anybody with common sense would put the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC North Division, the Miami Dolphins in the AFC South and the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC East. But what do I know after fifty years of watching football?
In the National Football Conference The Dallas Cowboys do not belong in the NFC EAST, and The St. Louis Rams do not belong in the NFC WEST. The Cowboys should move to the NFC South and the Rams should move to NFC East. The NFL still envisions a team in Los Angeles this would fill that vacant spot in the NFC West with an expansion team.
These moves would save MONEY, TIME, and GAS. This would also create competitive divisions and fresh new rivalries.
It will not happen anytime soon because of the veto power of two powerful team owners. The power brokers to realignment are The Dallas Cowboys and the Miami Dolphins. These owners do not want to give up their historical divisional rivals.
IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE!!!!
THE WASHINGTON FOOTBALL CLUB
Second, The NFL needs to address the name of the Washington Football Club, as an African American-Native American. I feel the pain that Native Americans who watch this team on the field. Washington owner Dan Snyder will not budge with his position. The only way this name will change is a national fan boycott of Washington Football gear and massive lawsuit against the National Football League. Mr. Goodell has waffled on this position over the last three years.
Maybe if Congress removes NFL’s tax exempt statutes, which might change some owners, mind.
If Commissioner Goodell truly wants racial harmony, the league changing the name would be the correct move. This would end one of the most racist names in the United States.
THE BRAND
Third, The Commissioner has promoted the brand and has garnered large television contracts with four different networks. Mr. Goodell and the owners created an NFL network in 2012.
This man has promoted Thursday night games at the detriment of the player’s health. Thursday Night games need to end but the advertisers and promoters are not going to hear that.
Last question where is DeMaurice Smith? The Players Union seems to be in limbo. Smith has not spoken since the Union agreement with the National Football League.
Mr. Goodell has shown THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY in administering the National Football League the past ten years.
In Conclusion the National Football League could be on the path of disintegration and turmoil if Mr. Goodell will not control certain owners and limit gambling.
Football fans are not happy with the recent events of the playoff shenanigans.
There is a dark cloud over this sport, a sport as a child I loved.
Post Script:- When will the National Football League invite Minority ownership

ROGER GOODELL IS THE NEW UNCLE BUD-PART III

Roger Goodell Is The New Uncle Bud (Selig)
Gary Norris Gray- BASN Staff Reporter
PART III
The Sheriff Roger Goodell rode into town on his big black stallion, waving his powerful sword carrying the red, white, and blue National Football League shield. IT IS NOT WORKING!!!!
Hope you remember the old spaghetti (Italian) western movies of the late 1970’s with Clint Eastwood. “THE GOOD, THE BAD, and THE UGLY”. The following articles will proceed in reverse THE UGLY, THE BAD, and last THE GOOD.
Mr. Roger Goodell may have taken classes from the former Commissioner of Baseball, Bud Selig, doing little as possible to placate the owners. Many have questioned the commissioner’s decisions the past nine years and the League might have to pay for those administrative decisions.
The New England Patriots beat the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 on one of the most usual plays of the 2015 Super Bowl. The question the football fans need to ask, is should the New England Patriots been on the field? Also the next question, how can the commissioner of the league allow cheaters to win?
The 2014-15 Super Bowl, The American Football Conference, and The Deflate Gate Playoffs will haunt this commissioner because football fans felt Mr. Goodell did not do enough to punish the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots.
This man’s motto was to protect THE SHIELD. This motto rings hollow. That was Roger Goodell’s stance when he entered the office of commissioner nine years ago.
The only difference between the two commissioners, one wants to be the Sheriff while the other commissioner just wanted to be with the good old boys and hang out in the bleachers.
Mr. Goodell moved into the office after Paul Taglibue retired on August 8, 2006. The National Football League has never been the same. It took five rounds of voting after a very contentious owners meeting in 2006 with the Oakland Raiders abstaining. (Al Davis being Al Davis AGAIN).
The National Football League may be following the path of Major League Baseball. MLB was America’s past-time and it stayed that way until 1986. The steroid area brought this great game to its knees. MLB has fallen into fourth place in the major sports behind the National Hockey League.
The National Football League may be following MLB’s footsteps demonization African American players. This could be the roadmap to disaster because there are more African American football fans than baseball fans.
THE GOOD-
The Commissioner gets brownie points for his work on the 2011 lockout. Prior to the start of the 2011 NFL season, Goodell worked with NFL owners and the (NFLPA) National Football League Players Association on settling the NFL lockout which ran from March 11 to August 5. During the lockout, at the request of some NFL teams, he held conference calls with season ticket holders where he discussed the collective bargaining agreement and conducted question-and-answer sessions on various NFL topics.
His actions taken with the New Orleans Saints Bounty gate scandal should be commended
In New Orleans in 2012 the SHERIFF threw the book at the Saints Head Coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. On March 21, 2012, Williams was suspended from the NFL as a result of his (admitted) involvement in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal. Bounties were paid for causing injuries that would take targeted players on opponent teams out of games.

Williams was suspended indefinitely because he was messing with the product. Williams directed Saints players to hurt stars in the league and that cannot happen. Goodell threw down the hammer. It was the only time Goodell handed out lengthy suspensions to Caucasian members of the National Football League.

The Commissioner was particularly angered that those involved in the program lied about it during two separate league investigations of the program.

CONCUSSIONS AND NFL
The League has finally addressed the issues of concussions. The League and Goodell might adopt the new helmet made by Riddell in the next season.
These are a few examples how the NFL could change the culture of concussions
• better enforcement of rules against helmet-to-helmet contact (such as the new rule passed just this week by the NFHS banning “targeting” and hits on “defenseless players”);
• encouraging players to strengthen their neck and shoulder muscles so as to better withstand the rotational forces that are primarily responsible for concussions;
• taking common sense steps to reduce the number of sub-concussive hits players sustain;
• doing more to educate players, coaches, and parents about the signs and symptoms of concussion and the dangers posed by continuing to play with symptoms;
• working to overcome the “culture of resistance” to reporting concussions by creating a safe reporting environment;
• ensuring that athletic trainers are on the sideline at every game and practice to identify potentially concussed athletes as quickly as possible and removing them from play for a sideline assessment and barring their return if concussion is suspected;
• more conservative management of concussion (including a period of near-strict cognitive and physical rest in the first few days after concussion); by
• gradually returning concussed athletes to the classroom and to sports; and
• recommending retirement when the risks of long-term injury outweigh the benefits of continued participation.

The company announced the release of a new football helmet called SpeedFlex. It is the latest advancement to follow major helmet releases by Riddell in the last decade – including the Revolution Speed (2008), and Riddell 360 (2012) – and is designed to reduce the impact of head-to-head collisions so dangerous in America’s favorite sport.
The ball is in Roger Goodell’s court. The Retired Players Union won a lawsuit on the grounds that concussion syndrome causes disabilities, mental problems, and early death.

With each passing year mothers are directing their young boys to play the game of futbol (soccer).

The NFL has to come to terms with these hard facts.

ROGER GOODELL IS THE NEW UNCLE BUD-PART II

Roger Goodell Is The New Uncle Bud (Selig)
PART II
THE BAD
2012 The Referee Lockout
By June 2012, the league and the NFL Referees Association had not yet come to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement, thus failing to resolve a labor dispute. Accordingly, the NFL locked out the regular NFL game officials, and opened the 2012 season with replacement referees.
The replacement officials consisted of low-level college and high school officials. None were Division I college referees at the time since the league wanted to protect them from union backlash and let them continue working their scheduled games during the concurrent college football season. In addition, many of the top Division I conferences barred their officials from becoming replacements anyway because they employed current and former NFL referees as officiating supervisors.
Despite Goodell stating during the preseason that he believed that the replacement officials will “do a credible job”, the inexperience of the replacement referees generated criticism by writers and players. Referencing Goodell’s aforementioned other actions as commissioner, the NFLPA issued a letter after Week 2 to the owners to end the dispute.
It did not end until the Monday Night Game in Green Bay when the Packers played the Seattle Seahawks. The game ended on a Russell Wilson Hail Mary pass to the end-zone to wide receiver Golden Tate. A funny thing happened at the end of this play. Tate and Green Bay defensemen Jennings fell to the ground with the ball in both players’ arms.
By rule simultaneous possession goes to the receiver. However, if the defense first secures control of the ball, the offense cannot get simultaneous possession merely by jointly possessing the ball; the offense must then fully secure it in its own right before getting a catch ruling.
It happened so quickly the part-time officials did not see it; one signaled a touchdown the other an incomplete pass. The play was reviewed upstairs with the replay official ruling a Seattle Seahawk touchdown.
What they don’t tell you is that the betting line was affected on that play. The Packers were 3 1/2 point favorites, and would have covered the spread if it was ruled an interception. All hell broke loose in Las Vegas as millions swung the other way. We are talking 250 million dollars.
This had to end quickly.
Commissioner Roger Goodell and his second-in-command Ray Anderson made the fatal assumption that the veteran officials were just replaceable cogs in the machinery of the NFL. Anderson admitted that the quality of the officiating would be less than the locked out officials, but it wouldn’t be much of a difference. It was rationalized that the union officials make mistakes, too.
The only thing that was decisive on this play was the league’s determination to settle the collective bargaining agreement before another game was played. Within two days a deal was reached, returning the officials to the field in less than a day.

Gambling will always be part of the NFL but there is a dark side to this and The Commissioner better keep control of it or we could be seeing more strange events on the field.

ROGER GOODELL IS THE NEW UNCLE BUD

Roger Goodell Is The New Uncle Bud (Selig)
Gary Norris Gray- BASN Staff Reporter
PART I
The Sheriff Roger Goodell rode into town on his big black stallion, waving his powerful sword carrying the red, white, and blue National Football League shield. IT IS NOT WORKING!!!!

Hope you remember the old spaghetti (Italian) western movies of the late 1970′s with Clint Eastwood.

THE UGLY
The Sheriff laid down the law in April 2007, the first year in office with the new Personal Conduct Policies. The law and order commissioner’s first player hit under the new policy was Tennessee Titian, corner, Adam “Pacman” Jones as he “made it rain” tossing money at strip girls in a Las Vegas after the 2007 NBA All Star Game.
The second, Terry “Tank” Johnson suspended for alleged weapons possession and vehicular speeding two months later.
Then came the big one that football fans took notice of the change in the league and how Mr. Goodell handed out justice. Michael Vick quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons suspension created a firestorm because the Commissioner suspended Vick without one piece of evidence. The question was not whether Vick was guilty or not. It was the new NFL policy and how it was enforced individuals questioned.
African Americans bore the brunt of this new policy, guilty or not.
When a Caucasian player committed an alleged crime Goodell and the NFL officials took their time and weighed all the evidence but when an African American committed the same alleged crime the suspension was immediate and stern. Guilty until proven innocent.
The punishment for African Americans, was severe while for white players it was a slap on the wrist. What bothered many players was that the current commissioner was judge, jury, and executioner.
This man dispensed discipline willy-nilly with no prior criteria. All Pro defenseman Pittsburgh Steeler Troy Polamalu made it clear that Goodell had too much power and control over the disciple polices and it needed to be changed.

On September 13, 2007, Goodell disciplined the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick after New England attempted to videotape the defensive signals of the New York Jets on September 9. Belichick was fined the league maximum of $500,000 and the team itself was fined US$250,000 and the loss of their first round 2008 draft pick. Goodell came down hard on the Patriots because he felt Belichick’s authority over football operations (Belichick is effectively the Patriots’ general manager as well as head coach) was such that his decisions were “properly attributed” to the Patriots as well. Goodell said he considered suspending Belichick, but decided against it because he felt fining them and stripping them of a draft pick were “more effective” than a suspension.
This was the commissioner’s first major mistake because the New England Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick would break the rules again nine years later.
Roger Goodell dragged his feet for the owner of the Indianapolis Colts, Ron Irsay. Mr. Irsay was detained by the police for alleged DUI in Carmel, Ind. They found prescription drugs and a suitcase full of money in his automobile. It took the League and The Commissioner nine months to take any action.
This has been the Modest Operandi for this commissioner when it comes to the reprimands and suspensions of Caucasian personnel in the National Football League.
The only exception was when
The Commissioners finally laid down the law with the New Orleans Saints Bounty Gate Scandal. He should be commended because it was the first time the office stood its ground, not because of the infraction but because the Saints administration did not tell the league office the truth.colston_saints
In New Orleans in 2012 the SHERIFF threw the book at the Saints at Head Coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Two years ago Philadelphia Eagle wide receiver Riley “I will fight every N***** here” Cooper stated these words. He was trying to go backstage at a concert in Philadelphia. A Black security guard would not let him pass. The Philadelphia Eagles fined and suspended him for one game but the league did nothing.
The League had instituted a language policy a few months earlier which was a 15 yard penalty for using the N-word.
While the League uses one of the most despicable and racist words in America when it pertains to the Washington Football Club. The Language penalty was resented.
The Sheriff never showed up.
Next Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s and Green Bay Packer Britt Favre’s alleged sexual misconduct were never addressed and both quarterbacks received light sentences. Both players were given passes while the investigations continued. Both players never received the wrath or venom that African American players received when breaking the same laws.
The racial games continued with Jacksonville wide receiver Jaguar Matt Jones On July 10, 2008 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jones was arrested at gunpoint and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.
Jones and one other former Arkansas football player, Jared Hicks, were inside a vehicle that was searched by police. The police found a plastic bag filled with six grams of a white substance that tested positive as cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue. Officers questioned Jones and he acknowledged the white powder was in fact cocaine, the report said.
Matt’s father made a statement that Matt was not in possession of any drugs but was in the vehicle that had the drugs.
Matt Jones did not spend a day in jail.
The NFL suspended Jones for three weeks for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He was in the lineup for Week 8, pending an appeal. On December 9, 2008, the NFL upheld Jones’ three-game suspension which caused him to miss the rest of the season.
Jones played three more games while the league investigated the charges. The Double Standard raised its ugly head.
Next The Commissioner wanted to stop players leading tackles with their helmets but here again he picked and chose which player would be fined. Goodell released a memo to every team in the league stating that, “It is clear to me that further action is required to emphasize the importance of teaching safe and controlled techniques and of playing within the rules”.
Mr. Goodell forgot one thing, RACE. It seems that All Pro middle linebacker of the Green Bay Packers, Clay Matthews can tackle anybody in anyway. Early this season Matthews hit San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick out of bounds with a flying tackle. Matthew’s elbow hit the chin of Kaepernick causing a slight concussion. Matthews led with his helmet something The Commissioner had stressed players not to do before the season started. NO FLAG, NO DISCIPLINE.
Matthews committed the infraction again in the NFL playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson threw an interception in the second quarter and Matthews went head hunting when the Packers received the ball. When Matthews launched himself through the air to tackle Wilson, he missed!!!! AGAIN, Matthews led with his helmet. He missed because Number 3 with his baseball skills sled under Matthews avoiding a certain concussion. AGAIN NO FLAG, NO DISCIPLINE.

The breaking point for African American football fans happened was the way the league handled or mishandled the Ray Rice- Baltimore Raven running back and Adrian Peterson-Minnesota Viking running back, abuse cases. The Commissioner threw the book at both of them but not before a second bite at the judicial apple.
The League and Goodell ignored the abuse problem until they were put on Front Street by TMZ, The Television Magazine show. Four teams had multiple cases of spousal abuse this year and the league did not say a word, the game happened to be more important than female lives.

INTEGRITY and THE NFL

INTEGRITY and THE NFL
Gary Norris Gray:- BASN Staff Reporter
On the biggest weekend of the year the National Football League is dealing with the issue of integrity. The League seems to be moving in the direction of the WWF. For those who don’t know what is, that stands for The World Wrestling Federation. In The WWF the participants know before the match has ended who will win and with the events of the past three weeks one needs to question the final scores of the recent NFL playoff games. We also need to question how justice and suspensions are being handed out.

“THE SHERIFF”, Roger Goodell rides his BIG stallion when dispensing discipline to Black players but rides his little pony when he disciplines white players.

The National Football League could be missing a great opportunity to maintain it’s football dominance as the number one sport in the United States. Football was the king of the sports world but this could be the beginning of the end of that dominance with the recent incidences.

The betting line on the game has dropped twice during the last two weeks meaning millions of dollars have changed hands in Las Vegas. The slipping and sliding integrity of this game could be in question if anything goes wrong on the field this weekend.

After an outstanding regular season it had to end in complete disaster with four major miscues and missed calls on the field. The season ended with the commissioner distributing discipline disproportionately to specific players.

This season did not start well with the immediate suspensions of Baltimore Raven running back Ray Rice and later Minnesota Viking running back Adrian Peterson for alleged domestic abuse. The issues are not the suspensions; the issues are the league’s handling of each case then piling on that player after the fact.

The league suspended Rice the first time for four weeks then turned around and suspended Rice AGAIN indefinitely. This occurred after the TMZ showed the ugly incident on National Television. THAT’S DOUBLE JEOPARDY.
The NFL went into spin mode with public service announcements about spousal abuse. It’s was too little, too late. The League knew about spousal abuse for years and ignored it.

At the very same time Indianapolis Colt owner Ron Irsay was arrested for alleged DUI. Irsay did not receive a league decision for his misconduct until almost nine months later. Next, Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s and Green Bay Packer Britt Favre’s alleged sexual misconduct never were addressed and received light sentences. Both players were given passes while the investigations continued.

DOUBLE STANDARD. The League had instituted a language policy a few months earlier which was a 15 yard penalty for using the N-word. It did not last long because The League could not explain how the R-word worked.

Five years ago Michael Vick was immediately suspended for the alleged dog fighting ring in the Atlanta Area. This was done without any evidence given to the commissioner’s office. Again the sanctions were swift, decisive, and immediate.

The issue for the NFL and the Commissioner is the double standard with these legal actions.

Black players should be questioning THE NEW SHERIFF, Roger Goodell and his recent disciplinary actions between Black and Caucasian players.

The year ended with some very interesting calls on the field in this year’s playoff.

1) For example, in the Dallas Cowboy Detroit Lion playoff game, Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant walked on the field in the fourth quarter without a helmet arguing a call, after a controversial play. The play was being reviewed by the instant replay official upstairs. Players know they are not allowed to go on the field without their equipment.

By league rules Bryant’s actions warranted an immediate 15 yard penalty for player misconduct.

2) A no call for defensive interference and face guarding on the same play which would have been another 15 yards or the spot of the ball. Either way, The Detroit Lions would have had the ball and the lead on the Dallas side of the field. GAME OVER Lions would have moved on in the playoffs.

The officials’ missed three calls in one play

FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!!! As my friend Cowboy Reggie Howell states many times.

The League needed the Cowboys in the playoffs for network ratings.
The Dallas Cowboys are one of four AMERICA’s TEAM and they could not exit the playoffs AGAIN with a wild card loss.

For those that don’t know who are the HALLOWED FOUR, it’s the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, and the Denver Broncos. Did you notice all four teams were in the playoffs this year?

3) The reverse call by the replay official in the Dallas Green Bay game of the Des Bryant touchdown catch in the end-zone which in fact was clarified as a legal catch and should have been a Dallas score ending the game. The Dallas Cowboys should have been playing the Seattle Seahawks for the National Football Conference Title.

Now if you’re a conspiracy theorist this fits perfectly. A MAKE UP CALL in Green Bay Dallas game because the majority of fans in America were so upset with the non-call the week earlier in Detroit. Sports talk radio could not get off of this subject for days and days.

4) The final straw that put the icing on this disaster, was DEFLATE GATE, where the New England Patriots used footballs that were not up to regulated league pressure standards the first half in the American League Conference Championship with the Indianapolis Colts.

This team with a very shady past was involved in another controversy event at a very inopportune time. With football fans watching and waiting for the Super Bowl.

This happened BACK TO BACK TO BACK.

It is not good for the National Football League nor Roger Goodell. The integrity baggage is getting heavier and the league is losing credibility.

The once invincible NFL seems to be crawling on it’s hands and knees.
This league is beginning to look like the WWF. The good guys are the New England Patriots and Captain America Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski vs. The Bad Guys the Seattle Seahawks-Legion of BOOM and The Field General Russell Wilson with Mr. Sherman.
Richard Sherman stated a few days ago what I’ve been thinking .. The New England Patriots will never get fined or suspended WHY? because the owner of the Patriots Robert Kraft are buddy-buddy with the Commissioner of the National Football League, Roger Goodell. Kraft has influence on the other owners and it would be difficult for Goodell to punish this organization AGAIN!!
At least Sherman put the information out there for everybody to see and he never bites his tongue when he speaks. The NFL is in trouble if they do not reprimand this REPEAT OFFENDER.
The Shield will mean nothing. Can we ALL SAY WWF?
They need to right this ship or this Titanic might sink..

This SUPER BOWL should be a great moment in NFL history, instead it will become the most shameful moment.

This Super Bowl had every intention of being a classic instead it is clouded in doubt AND deception.

1) The NFL has to suspend Head Coach Belichick FOR A YEAR and fine the New England Patriots or the League will lose all creditability.

Thirteen years ago ….
History would have been different if the league had not changed the quarterback tuck rule for the New England Patriots.
This is another Oakland Raider Rule.

NFL Rule 3, Section 22, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble

The Patriots were playing for the American Conference Championship against the Oakland Raiders. The clock was running out in the fourth quarter. We all know that quarterback Tom Brady fumbled the ball and it should have been Raider ball. GAME OVER BUT…..

New England won the game as the instant replay official stated it was the Patriots ball and not a fumble. New England kicked a field goal to tie the game at 13 and the rest is history. The New England Patriots moved on to four more Super Bowls while the Oakland Raiders would only have one winning season since. The League wanted to move away from the rough and tough Silver and Black, away from the Northern California team to the Northeastern team called the Patriots.

Now the National Football League will pay with integrity issues and the cheating New England Patriots, one of America’s AFC team. This team got caught in The Spy-gate episode years ago in New York. THE DIE HAS BEEN CAST.

FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!!!

Let’s continue, this SUPER BOWL generated all the ingredients of a good war story, a cowboy western, or a good Perry Mason Law episode on television. Everything Americans wanted
A) It’s the image of hero’s black vs. white
b) It’s two great quarterbacks Brady vs. Wilson
c) It’s outstanding defenses with corner backs Sherman vs. Revis
d) It’s the Seahawk defense vs. Pats offence, the immovable object against the powerful irresistible force.

Questions will remain until the game has ended Sunday night.

e) How much will deflate-gate affect this game? Ten percent of any game is the mental state of the player or a team. Will this controversy help or hinder The New England Patriots?
f) How much will the (ZEBRAS), officials affect the game? A blown call could mean a Super Bowl victory.

FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!!

The National Football League is in trouble.

THE RAT (ESPN) STRIKES AGAIN

THE RAT (ESPN) STRIKES AGAIN
Gary Norris Gray:- BASN Staff Reporter
The Seattle Seahawks made a miraculous comeback and beat the Green Bay Packers under the leadership of quarterback Russell Wilson. The commentator Trent Dilfer correctly identified Wilson for the first time on ESPN as “The Field General.” However, Wilson had already been appointed that title over the past three years by BASN and its related journalists.
Brother Michael Louis Ingram-“Soul Tree Radio In The Raw”, three years ago could see the talent of number 3. He coined the phrase THE FIELD GENERAL because of the way Wilson could lead his team like a military officer down the field. Ingram could see how Wilson motivated his team with positive words and positive plays. Wilson made the impossible, possible. Brother Anthony McClean on “The Batchelor Pad” on BlogTalkRadio picked up the term FIELD GENERAL on his internet show and has used it. Brother Gary Norris Gray in his weekly BASN NFL Black Quarterback Report and his internet show “The Gray Leopard Cove”, used this term two years ago.
We at BASN know that other sports networks have been listening and reading material from our web sites and our internet radio shows. We hear these words that have been spoken days, weeks, months, or years before on BASN and then repeated on other networks without acknowledgment to the source. But now it’s time to give credit where credit is due.
Many people say it’s a form of flattery when another network uses your informational material. Others state it is a form of stealing or a backhanded compliment. Either way inform the public where you got the information from with an acknowledgment statement.
The Mouse (ESPN) has used BASN information from time to time in the past four years without giving any references. Sports fans love to hear analysis of the game when the battle has ended, but to outright steal information is unconscionable.
ESPN crossed the line last weekend. Trent Dilfer, their football reporter, talked about the Seahawk- Packer game and then called Seattle Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson, ‘The Field General’, not once, but twice. WHERE DID HE GET THAT FROM?
As a starting quarterback, Russell Wilson has 34 wins and 21 home victories and that is the most in the Super Bowl Era 1966-2013, in his first three seasons. He passed Pro Football Hall of Famer Miami Dolphin quarterback DAN MARINO (33) and Atlanta Falcon quarterback MATT RYAN (33) in wins and Ryan (20) in home victories. He’s not a “game manager;” he’s the best quarterback in the game and is poised to get another Super Bowl ring!!
Of General Wilson’s 12 losses, only one (30-21) to San Diego this year – has been by more than one score. General Wilson is the embodiment of the other great Black quarterback’s Doug Williams, Chuck Ealey, Bobby Layne, Eldridge Dickey, Warren Moon and Damon Allen. He is also the shining star for young Black quarterbacks to follow, Teddy Bridgewater, Colin Kaepernick, E.J. Manuel, Cam Newton, Geno Smith and Robert Griffin III. When Field General Russell Wilson loses – it is only because the Seahawks run out of time. The Green Bay Packers can attest to that with last week’s 28-22 Seattle overtime conference victory.
All of the reporters at THE MOUSE have called Russell Wilson a field manager who was too short; that Wilson could not throw the ball over defenders; that Wilson could not run fast enough to carry an offense to victory. ESPN and the NFL will not reward African American quarterbacks nor will they say anything positive unless they are put in a corner. The General has put both the NFL and ESPN in that corner
Mr. Russell Wilson defied the odds and guided the Seattle Seahawks to one Super Bowl and will play for another one next week.
Russell Wilson has won more games the first three years of his career than any other quarterback. If he wins this Super Bowl he will be in the company of Joe Montana, Bart Star, Tom Brady, John Elway, Troy Aikman, and Terry Bradshaw who all won back to back Super Bowls.
STILL SPORTS MEDIA REFUSE TO GIVE HIM CREDIT
So it’s time to keep it real. WE (BASN) coined the term “THE FIELD GENERAL” and ESPN should recognize and give the men of BASN credit or find another term to describe number 3, Russell Wilson quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks. Maybe go back to call him a game manager. Oh…Russell Wilson will be going to BACK to BACK Super Bowls. That designation might not fit anymore. He is The FIELD GENERAL. ESPN knows it; BASN said it; Wilson has proved it.
