The National Football League displayed their two tiers of administrative thought. The New York Football Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders would show the world in 2023. The Raiders viewed the future while the Giants stayed in the past. the results are still resounding on both coast and in both conferences..

The Las Vegas Raiders defeated the New York Football Giants 30-6 in the middle of the season. But it was more than that. It was old school versus new school; it was old money against new money. It was the Raider Administration listening to their players in sin city while the Giants Administration closed the door on their players in Jersey. The Raiders missed the playoffs by one game while the New York Football Giants were not even in the race.

The results are striking. The Raiders finished the season 8-9 while the Giants ended 6-11. The Raiders got back into the playoff picture, the New York Giants could not wait for January. The Raiders started a new season while the Giants just quit.

The Black and Silver continue to break historical ground while Big Blue continues to regress and lose games. The Las Vegas Raiders got the message, the N.Y. Giants did not. The West Coast team fired their head coach and hired one of their own to replace the New England clone. Josh McDaniel’s tried to make the Black and Silver to be the west coast team resembling that team in Boston. It did not work because the talent was different. McDaniel’s tried to put a round peg in a square hole, IT DID NOT WORK….

PIERCE, DOUGLASS-MORGAN, KELLY

Not only that the Raiders continued to rebel against the conservative National Football League, hiring the first Black female president-Sandra Douglass Morgan, a Black General Manager-Champ Kelly, and a Black interim head coach Antonio Pierce. The first in the history of the league to have three African-American executives at the same time. The Raiders have always been innovators hiring the first African American head coach Art Shell 1989 while the Giants were the last team in the league to have a Black quarterback in the starting position, Geno Smith 2017. This was the same year The New York Giants fired their Black General Manager, Jerry Reese. Reese was the foundation of the Big Blue Super Bowl teams, The Giants have not been to the playoffs since.

TWINKLE TOES

The New York Football Giants signed a multi-million-dollar contract to their new budding quarterback, Danial Jones a.k.a. “Twinkle Toes,” “Danny Dimes,” while putting their star running back-who is African American, Saquon Barkley on the franchise tag player list saving the organization money. Former NFL head coach Herm Edwards stated, “YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME-HELLO,” The Giants don’t seem to hear or understand this motto OR they just don’t care getting beat by Dallas 40-0 and 49-17 on National Television.

Side note:- I call Danial Jones Twinkle Toes because of the way he runs on his upper feet with a long wide gate. The America sports media calls him Danny Dimes throwing touchdowns, Twinkle Toes is more appropriate.

This decision is the complete contradiction for a winning team chemistry with racial overtones. Yet it did not sit well with the players or the Giant fan base. New York spends money on a quarterback and then becomes Uncle Scrooge with their star running back. Make cents? Pun intended the Giants have it backwards AGAIN. They will pay again when Barkley walks away from Met Life Stadium in 2025.

The Giants want quarterback Danial Jones to be the face of the organization not Barkley and we all know why. Big Blue could regret making this choice and losing both players through free agency at the end of this football season. The New York Football Giants could be starting from ground zero without a running back and a first string quarterback..

As my writing associate Michael Louis Ingram would say Karma may be late but it always gets to its appointed destination both Barkley and Jones have been injured. Mr. Jones did not play the rest of the season. Barkley tried to save the Giants season, that did not work either.

The Giants are the voice of the conservative ownership in the National Football League while the Raiders continue to be the rebels, the outcast, the unfathomable future of the league.

What is striking is that both teams had meetings in the same week this year, both teams sent messages to their owners and General Managers. The responses were very different.

BLACK HISTORY 101

The Raiders have always reached into the Black community with their draft picks from (HBCU) Historically Black Colleges and Universities while the Giants keep sending Black stars packing and Black executives fired i.e., wide receivers Odell Beckhem to the Cleveland Browns and my favorite Giant wide receiver number 80 Victor Cruz to the Chicago Bears. The Giants also sent General Manager Jerry Reese packing after ten years in New Jersey’s Meadowlands after securing two Super Bowl teams 2007-2011.

The Giants will continue to slide backwards with the lack of leadership or vision on the field while Raider owner Mark Davis continues the motto his dad, Al Davis started many years ago. “JUST WIN BABY” continuing the innovations on the field and in the front office. Mark Davis hired Pierce to be the Vegas Raider head coach for 2024-25 season.

The recent Las Vegas Raiders executive promotions could be the future vision of the National Football League while the New York Football Giants continue to hold on to the league’s past with their lack of innovations in their lack of African American executive promotions.

This is the legacy of the National Football League, the legacy of the New York Football Giants and the Las Vegas Raiders. The New York Football Giants lost three games in a row with a local rookie quarterback taking over (Tommy Devito-New Jersey resident and University of Illinois graduate) while the Vegas Raiders ended the season with a victory, the Black and Silver way. Both teams have shown each side, now it’s time for the league to move forward into the future. The Raiders have it right the Giants do not.
